'NCIS: New Orleans' season 3 spoilers, plot news: Brody fiasco brings in FBI Special Agent to shadow Team Pride

Big changes should be expected when "NCIS: New Orleans" season 3 returns to the small screens this September. For one, a new face will grace the series. For another, Agent Brody won't be a part of Team Pride anymore.

It was reported back in July that Zoe McLellan's character on the series, Agent Meredith Brody, has been written off even before actual production started. The early notice has made it possible for the series to cast a new female character to fill in the void left by McLellan's departure.

McLellan has been with the series from the get-go. She was initially part of "NCIS," before she was included in its NoLa offshoot series as one of its original cast members.

Brody's departure from Team Pride is a direct consequence of some poor choices she made last season, particularly getting involved with Homeland Security Agent John Russo (Ivan Sergei) who wasn't only anti-military but also a double agent. It turns out Russo was the man responsible for the threat in New Orleans.

The resulting black mark on Brody's stellar career prompted the FBI to send in a Special Agent in the person of Tammy Gregorio (Vanessa Ferlito) to investigate and monitor the activities of Team Pride. After Brody's fiasco, Agent Dwayne Pride (Scott Bakula) and his team were put on administrative leave, and when "NCIS: New Orleans" season 3 returns, it will pick up at the time Tammy was brought in.

TV Line exclusively shared a scene showing Tammy leading Agent Pride's team toward an unspecified location as she investigates the case.

"This upcoming season, after a sniper is at large during a crowded festival weekend, the NCIS team partners with several federal agencies on the case. The aftermath of the Russo case continues, as Brody decides to leave NCIS and FBI Special Agent Tammy Gregorio is sent to investigate Pride and his team," reads the synopsis shared by CBS.

"NCIS: New Orleans" season 3 is slated to premiere on Sept. 20 on CBS.
