Nintendo fully introduces their newest console in the Nintendo Switch during a special event that was livestreamed by various media portals.

As promised, the Japanese company has opened the gates in terms of what gamers can tap into the hybrid console. Nintendo Switch is set to hit the shelves on March 3 worldwide and will retail at $299.99 in North America. But for those who are already sold on the idea, Nintendo is already accepting preorders with the option to choose between the classic gray design or the more fun version with Neon Blue and Neon Red Joy-Con.

Additionally, with its mobile capabilities, the Nintendo Switch is expected to have a battery life can have the console perform between two to six hours depending on the kind of game being played. Charging will be done via the USB-C port, which makes it easier for connectivity instead of a specialized mechanism. The tablet part of the device features a 6.2-inch display equipped with multitouch capabilities.

As for the highly controversial content supply for Nintendo Switch, the company is planning an online service that will provide a set of games, one of which is will be for the classic vault from which fans can choose. This hopefully would have gamers more at ease in terms of the regular wave of titles that they can play on it. It is no secret that Nintendo does not have that much of a great history in terms of partnering up with third-party software, which in turn have hurt their hardware releases significantly.

"Essentially you've got access to that game for a period of time, and then after the month there's a new selection. You'll have the opportunity to buy it, but [after] that month we've moved on to another game," Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's president and chief operating officer told Wired in light of the special event for Nintendo Switch. "The reason for that is, it continues to reinforce our commitment to online, and do so in a way that will enable the consumer to enjoy their Nintendo Switch and to still be able to play those connected experiences — like Splatoon, like Kart, like fill in the blank — while they're on the go."
