OnePlus 3 release date, specs news: Handset to feature 5.5-inch display, Snapdragon 820, 16MP camera

Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus is expected to release their newest device soon. Dubbed as the OnePlus 3, the handset is meant to be an improved version of its predecessor, the OnePlus 2. There is no official word yet regarding the launch date of the device but thanks to a leaked information, it may be coming sooner than expected.

According to a report by Android Authority, a representative from OnePlus revealed that the device will be making its debut on June 14 via the company's VR launch experience. OnePlus has yet to make the official announcement so it's best to take this report with a pinch of salt.

Meanwhile, the device's features and specs have been kept under wraps as well but just like any other upcoming smartphones, the OnePlus 3 is no exception to rumors and speculations. Several leaks about the device have surfaced already, including the information from serial tipster Evan Blass who said in a tweet that the OnePlus 3 will have a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with 1080p resolution. He also suggested that it will be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 under the hood with 64 GB of native storage space.

GSM Arena also detailed that the processor of the handset will be paired with either 4 or 6 GB of RAM. It's also rumored to be powered with a 3,000mAh battery and is expected to run on Android N once Google officially releases it. OxygenOS version 3.1.0 is speculated to be topped over by Android N.

Moreover, the device is said to be packed with a 16-megapixel rear camera paired with 8-megapixel front camera. It may also come with a fingerprint scanner and an NFC which is actually missing from the previous device. As for its design, a render shows a premium, solid all-metal body in the color silver.

If the revealed launch date turns out to be true, it won't be long until fans find out more about the OnePlus 3.
