'Outlander' season 3 spoilers, plot news: Claire and Jaime will be apart for a long while

Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Catriona Balfe) may be decades apart, but "Outlander" season 3 will see them together again. However, it will take a long time before the two will reunite.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, executive producer Maril Davis said that bringing the couple together will not show the extent of the consequences and the emotion involved in their separation.

"I would hate to see them together immediately. Like I said, we're still kind of figuring that out, but you should feel that 20 years has passed and it shouldn't be easy," Davis said.

During their time apart, Jaime, in particular, will have time to learn more about himself and what he is as an individual outside of his relationship in "Outlander" season 3.

"He thinks that he's lost her, or at least that she's alive and well but in the future, so what is he living for? What sort of man is he now?" Heughan told Variety of his character.

"Outlander" season 3 will see Jamie who he is without Claire "why is he still surviving, what has he got to live for when he's lost the woman that he loves."

As for Claire, she will have a difficult time deciding if she will come back to Jaime, especially after having experienced motherhood with their daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton).

However, in the end, Claire and Jaime will still back in each other's arms. How things will lead up to what is expected a tearful and tender reunion will be the center of "Outlander" season 2.

Filming for "Outlander" season 3 will begin next month, as revealed by Heughan on Twitter. The new season will mostly be set in the Caribbean and will follow the events in Diana Gabaldon's third novel "Voyager."

"Outlander" season 3 will premiere on Starz sometime next year.
