'Penny Dreadful' season 4 renewal news 2016: Fan posts irate open letter to 'Penny Dreadful' creator John Logan

The two-hour season 3 finale of Showtime's "Penny Dreadful" was heartbreaking enough, but the hearts of fans worldwide were utterly shattered when it was revealed that the third season's final episode was the last for the entire series.

In the season 3/series ender, Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) was shot and killed by Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) to save the world from Dracula (Christian Camargo) and his minions.

In an interview with TVLine, "Penny Dreadful" creator John Logan and Showtime president David Nevins talked about the decision to wrap up the series and about the possibility of there being more "Penny Dreadful."

According to Logan, for him the show had always been about Vanessa's struggle with her faith. He also said that he knew that, sooner or later, she would get to the apotheosis, in which she would either accept or deny her God.

In a video message to fans, Logan addressed the possibility of the horror drama/thriller continuing on without Vanessa.

"Penny Dreadful was always intended to go for three years exactly, so I think we've told our story well and thank you for all your support and hanging in there with us," he said.

Speaking with Deadline after the finale, he said, "I can absolutely confirm it is really over, the end — that's all she wrote."

However, Logan's explanation has not appeased the show's most avid fans. Vampires.com recently published an open letter from a "Penny Dreadful" fan who called out Logan for allegedly lying to fans about the real reason behind the show's abrupt ending.

"So stop lying to us, John," the fan wrote. "Your decision to end PENNY DREADFUL in such a way was NOT always your intent."

According to the letter-writer, despite Logan's various explanations about the show's ending, he actually chose to conclude the series so he could move on to another project.

"If you cared that much, though, why not take a little more time and end it properly?" the fan asked. "Another season, or even a few additional episodes, would have sufficed."

As of now, there is still no word about a possible "Penny Dreadful" season 4.
