'Preacher' season 1 episode 2 spoilers: New character to be introduced, showrunner weighs in on Tom Cruise's involvement in the series

Rookie AMC series "Preacher" has been one of the network's most promising show, and this week's pilot episode definitely did not disappoint viewers.

Apart from its unique storyline and exceptional cast, the show had everybody talking when it featured a shocking joke in the pilot — Tom Cruise's death. During the AMC series' Hollywood premiere, most viewers laughed while some were surprised that the show will poke fun at a real person's death. According to The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Evan Goldberg clarified that they have no intention of offending anyone. "There's no negative connotation to it," the EP stressed during a press conference. "We're not making a statement," co-executive producer Seth Rogen added. "Our humor often involves a lot of pop cultural references to actual people that I as a person in Hollywood find myself face-to-face with We only make fun of people we are big fans of."

To provide a short recap, last Sunday's episode 1 featured an unidentified object as it crashed into a preacher. Soon after the object made contact with the person, he became an other-worldly creature. He then explodes into pieces making the disciples run away from him.

"Preacher" comic book co-creator Garth Ennis admitted that he was delighted with the TV adaptation."I like how they've grounded the story," he said in an interview with CBS News. "Essentially the problem is, if you took 'Preacher' and put it on the screen as it stands, not only would the thing be almost unwatchable, overloaded with incredible characters and ghastly situations, but you'd run out material inside a season and a half. And of course, they want it to last much longer than that."

On another note, the official synopsis for next week's episode 2 titled "See" reads:

"Jesse tries to be a 'good preacher,' unaware that a mysterious duo is after him. Meanwhile, the enigmatic Cowboy is introduced."
