'Prison Break' season 5 production: Dominic Purcell talks accident, Michael's escape and show's big bad; prepares to return on set soon

It's only been a week since Dominic Purcell had an accident on the set of "Prison Break" season 5, but the actor is quickly recuperating and is ready to be back on set soon.

Although the injuries made their mark on him, they will be written into the story. Detailing the accident, Purcell, who plays Lincoln Burrows in the series, told Deadline which scene it happened.

"It was a scene where I was running into the prison, and I felt this extraordinary explosion on my head that I'd never experienced," Purcell recalled of the "Prison Break" season 5 shoot.

"It wasn't like someone was slowly cutting my arm kind of pain; it was this sudden explosion. I dropped to my knees, and I was in shock," he continued.

He admitted that although he thought he "was going to die" considering the extent of the injuries he sustained on his head, the "Prison Break" lead star quickly recovered, stood up and requested medical assistance.

Purcell's head "split right open" and his nose was broken after an iron bar fell on him. The injuries will be part of his character in "Prison Break" season 5.

"We're jumping to episodes eight and nine, and we're going to play the injuries in it. They'll just write something where Lincoln gets bashed in the head with an iron bar or something," the actor said.

It wouldn't be anything new or out of the ordinary, at least to his character in "Prison Break" since Lincoln always tends to have bruises mostly from fighting.

Meanwhile, Purcell also detailed how "Prison Break" season 5 played with Michael's (Wentworth Miller) death. It turns out that Michael wasn't dead at all and is simply working for an organization in Yemen.

He got in a prison there because he no longer wants to work with the group and was put there to change his mind. From the sound of it, Lincoln and the group will be dealing with bigger adversaries in "Prison Break" season 5.

The "Prison Break" revival premieres spring 2017.
