'Quantico' season 2 spoilers news: Russell Tovey cast as series regular; showrunner teases surprising twist in premiere episode

Actor Russell Tovey will be taking part in the FBI thriller "Quantico" starting this upcoming second season as a regular cast member. Tovey will be portraying the character of the mysterious Harry Doyle who is said to be a mischievous partygoer.

The Hollywood Reporter wrote that the persona Tovey will be playing will be a cross between the fictional billionaire Thomas Crown and a grownup Artful Dodger. Doyle "can be anything to anybody" and will be capable of seducing one's husband and then rob him after.

"The role was created specifically for him," "Quantico" showrunner Josh Safran told the outlet. He explained that he was introduced to Tovey some 10 years back on the set of the film "The History Boys," and from then on hoped for an opportunity to work with the actor.

Meanwhile, according to TV Line, Safran guaranteed a surprising twist immediately in the first episode of "Quantico" season 2. He mentioned what he believes sets apart the Federal Bureau and the Central Intelligence.

According to the series creator, the show is interested in how the FBI is so much about being honest and truthful and fulfilling an agent's obligation that is attached to his badge, while the CIA operates quite in the opposite manner.

"You succeed if you can deceive. So it's going to be interesting to see. It's like a funhouse mirror of what we've seen," Safran remarked. This story arc will witness the involvement of some secrecy and of the new role that Alex Parrish (Priyanka Chopra) will be taking on.

As the show's title suggests, "Quantico" follows that story of Parrish from when she was starting out in the FBI Academy hoping to set off a career later on with the Bureau. Through many struggles and conflicts including having been wrongly accused of the crime of terrorism, Parrish ended up in the final scenes of "Quantico" season 1 with an offer of a post in the CIA instead. It was where fans were left speculating whether or not the lead protagonist will accept the offer.

"Quantico" season 2 will air on ABC later this year although the exact premiere date has yet to be announced.
