'Reign' season 4 spoilers, plot news: New characters to join the show but will it be returning for a fourth season?

The third season of "Reign" has just wrapped up and while fans are eagerly awaiting news concerning the upcoming season, there are talks that The CW, the network that airs the series, has plans other than bringing it back for a fourth season.

There are talks that new characters will be introduced in the upcoming season of the royalty-inspired drama "Reign." It appears Catherine de Medici's daughter, Leesa will be introduced. TV Line's Michael Ausiello confirmed this, even saying that "Leesa is the least favorite of Catherine's children."

Apparently, Leesa's injection into the story would see her vying for her mother's affection, all the while facing various struggles. There's a chance that Leesa's grief over her mother's indifference would manifest in her actions.

Meanwhile, Torrance Coombs, who played Bash in the series, might not be returning for the fourth season since he is set to star in a different show. Nevertheless, he told his fans via Reddit that he still hopes for a comeback sometime in the upcoming season.

"Leaving Reign was bittersweet. I'm very sad to leave what has been essentially my family for the last three years. Creatively, however, I'm very excited to do new things," the actor said.

His character's exit from the show was rather peculiar. Instead of dying for Mary's (Adelaide Kane) sake, as fans initially assumed, he decided to become a druid. He did so after an unknown old lady told him he could still help Mary in her fight for Scotland by tapping the earth's potential.

In other "Reign" news, there are rumors that the show won't be back for a fourth season. Fans consider the news odd since the network has already announced new characters.

According to Carter Matt, a dip in the show's ratings could be the reason why the show's fourth season would not have a 2016 release. It further said that "The 100" and "The Originals," two among The CW's roster of shows, were faring better than "Reign."

It could be that the network decided to pre-empt "Reign" season 4 to give way for other fan favorite shows. If there is truth to the rumor, then fans could expect "Reign" to be included in the network's line-up of shows for 2017.

Further news on "Reign" season 4's release date will be provided in the coming days.
