It has been confirmed that new faces will grace the fourth season of "Reign" even as its premiere date remains unsettled. Nevertheless, the writers have dished that work for the upcoming season is underway, so that should be good news for the viewers.

"Reign" season 4 will apparently have a midseason premiere, and on The CW, midseason would suggest a winter debut. Hence, there is a big possibility that it would drop in sometime in January, probably after "The 100" and "The Originals," two of the network's top-rating shows, have aired their respective premieres.

According to Deadline, Will Kemp is set to join "Reign" season 4 as Lord Darnley, the man who became Mary, Queen of Scots' (Adelaide Kane) second husband in real life. He's been cast for three episodes, but should all go well with his recurring role, he could be on the show for the beyond that period.

TV Line has likewise confirmed the casting of more characters aside from Catherine's (Megan Follows) daughter Leesa – Bothwell who would be one of Mary's new suitors, Narcisse's (Craig Parker) son Gabriel, and Henry, Charles' (Spencer MacPherson) brother who would be recast as an older character.

Meanwhile, a June 9 tweet has confirmed that the first day of shooting for "Reign" season 4 has begun. No less than the writers of the show made the announcement on their Twitter account. Check it out below:

The CW has kept mum as far as details of the upcoming season go. Nevertheless, wow that the actors have officially started filming, fans can rest assured that the series, delayed though it may be, has been given the green light.

According to Breathecast, The CW's decision to move "Reign's" premiere date further back is to fit it in a release window where it won't compete with the viewership of the network's other shows. Apparently, the two The CW shows mentioned earlier, along with "iZombie," have the same target audience as "Reign" does, but the three shows are faring better, ratings-wise.

TV Series Finale has noted that while the maiden season of "Reign" gained 1.57 million viewers, there was a significant dip in the second season with only 1.08 million viewers. The third season fared no better, as the series saw its largest decrease, down to 0.983 million viewers per episode.

The drop in viewership even fueled speculations that the show would be cancelled, but if recent developments are any indication, the show will live to see season 4, albeit with a delayed premiere.

Keep coming back for more updates on "Reign" season 4's premiere date.
