'Samurai Jack' season 5 premiere date, latest news: Adult Swim to air new season of 'Samurai Jack' in March

The fifth season of Adult Swim's cartoon series "Samurai Jack" finally has a premiere date.

As reported by Polygon, a fan asked about the status of the cartoon series during a promotional bump for Adult Swim. In response, the network only answered with a date and air time — March 11 at 11:30 p.m. ET.

Fans may recall that the "Samurai Jack" season 5 was originally slated to premiere last year. In December 2015, Cartoon Network released a five-second promo confirming the return of the beloved cartoon show in 2016. However, plans were pushed back, which frustrated many fans who had been patiently waiting for the show's resurgence after so many years off the air.

"Samurai Jack" follows the story of a time-traveling prince who has dedicated his life to fulfilling his mission of vanquishing the shape-shifting demon, Aku. It ran on Cartoon Network from 2001 to 2004, airing for four seasons before it was canceled.

Series creator Genndy Tartakovsy had previously attempted to develop a feature-length movie about the show's main character. However, he eventually decided to reach out to Adult Swim to see if they would want to revive the series.

The fifth season of "Samurai Jack" will contain 10 episodes and will kick off 50 years after the finale of season 4. The show will reportedly feature a "darker, more theatrical" tone. Several cast members are also expected to return to the revived series, including Phil LaMarr, who originally provided the voice of the show's titular character.

As if to build more anticipation for the show's upcoming return, Adult Swim, according to Comicbook, has added "Samurai Jack" back to its line-up as a marathon event. On Jan. 14, the show was re-aired on Adult Swim, much to the delight of fans who have been waiting to see the critically acclaimed series grace their televisions once again.
