ABC drama "Scandal" season 6 is still far away from its premiere date, but fans are already getting the heads up on what may possibly unfold in the upcoming season.

According to reports, the American political thriller series will be kicking off with the first episode titled "Survival of the Fittest." Not much is divulged about it, but it has something to do with the elections. Fans may recall that in the season 5 finale, Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) accepted the challenge of representing and campaigning for Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young).

Aside from that, she asked Jake Ballard (Scott Foley) to run as Mellie's vice president. Season 6 will pick up from there with executive producer Shona Rhimes telling Entertainment Weekly that the series will be starting on election night.

And when asked if the election will still factor into the news season, she replied, "Yes, it is going to play into our season, but we're not going to spend our time playing an election." The biggest question now is that who will garner the victory. Mellie and Jake will be up fighting up against Democratic hopeful Franciso Vargas (Ricardo Chavira) for president and Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry) for vice president.

Aside from the upcoming elections, spoilers suggest that a love triangle will be emphasized in the upcoming season. Olivia and Fitzgerald Grant may have ended their affair, but it doesn't mean that all is done between them. It's possible that the soon to be former president will be chasing after Olivia. It's going to be a lot easier now since he will no longer be the President of the United States.

The only hindrance, though, is that Olivia's heart could belong to someone else now. Jake may also have his eyes set for Olivia, and if all things go well, they could have a shot at love. Thus, a love triangle will be born, and the three will struggle through it. Spoilers also suggest that Fitz will do what he can to get into Olivia's life back.

The sixth season of "Scandal" is expected to premiere sometime in early 2017.
