'Scorpion' season 3 spoilers, plot news: Eddie Kaye Thomas speaks on the upcoming season; who is Happy's husband?

The second season of CBS drama "Scorpion" came to a close last month with a lot of unanswered questions, and viewers hope that the upcoming season 3 will finally resolve some of the major issues in the characters' personal lives.

To provide a short recap, Tony got down on one knee in the finale as he asked Happy to marry him. Just when everything seemed to be going smoothly with their relationship, Happy turned down Toby's proposal. Her reason — she is someone else's wife. She quickly fled the headquarters leaving a lot of questions in everyone's minds. Who could Happy's husband be? Why did she keep this secret from Toby? Details about the plot for season 3 are yet to be known, so all viewers can do now is speculate. There is a huge possibility that Happy's husband will finally have a face, and her backstory will be explored further.

Eddie Kaye Thomas, who portrays Toby, recently caught up with Entertainment Weekly where he expressed his excitement for what's to come in season 3, as well as the complications after the failed  proposal. "I'm excited for the season 3 premiere to see how the [fallout] of the season finale is played out amongst the team because what happened with Toby and Happy has big ramifications," he said.

The actor also hinted more action-packed episodes in the future sure to delight fans. He mentioned how some of the action sequences in previous episodes they did was inspired by some of their favorite films. "The writers are just going to try and have us go to every corner of the globe and face every challenge possible," he added. "Think of your favorite action movies, and we'll do it. The Fort Knox episode had some Indiana Jones in it. The North Pole had parts of The Revenant in it. It's versions of all of our favorite movies!"

"Scorpion" is loosely inspired by the life of Walter O' Brien, a self-proclaimed genius. The series follows Walter as he leads a team of highly intelligent misfits who constitute a group called Scorpion, and they are in charge of protecting the country from high-tech threats.

As of this writing, the network has yet to announce an official release date, but the show will likely return in September.
