Freeform recently unveiled another trailer for the second season "Shadowhunters," the TV adaptation of Cassandra Clare's "Mortal Instruments" novels. The trailer showed how the Shadowhunters will respond to Jace Wayland's (Dominic Sherwood) disappearance.

The clip showed Maryse Lightwood (Nicola Correia-Damude) informing her fellow Shadowhunters of Valentine's (Alan van Sprang) plan. According to her, Valentine has gotten his hands on the Mortal Cup, which is instrumental for his scheme to dominate the Shadowhunter world. More importantly, the Lightwood matriarch informed her colleagues that a Shadowhunter has joined his army.

To recap, after Jace discovered the identity of the harbinger of chaos in season 2, he opted to follow him. Finding out that it was his father, the young Shadowhunter was seen switching sides before the end of the season.

In the trailer, Victor Aldertree (Nick Sagar) was introduced as the newest head of the New York Institute. Seeing how events have unfolded, the latest head of the Institute will prioritize the search for Wayland. But at the same time, he will place the Institute in temporary lockdown.

Since the young Shadowhunters will not be allowed to leave their sanctuary, each passing minute will make Clary Fray (Katherine McNamara) more and more anxious. Isabelle Lightwood (Emeraude Toubia), on the other hand, will be a little more confident about the situation. She will assure Fray that Jace is tough, and that even Valentine won't be able to break him so easily.

Towards the end of the trailer, viewers saw Valentine's men punching Jace in the face repeatedly.

As previously reported, season 2 will not be all grim and gloomy. In the upcoming season, viewers will see warlock Magnus Bane (Harry Shum Jr.) and Shadowhunter Alec Lightowood (Matthew Daddario) explore the possibility of a romantic relationship.

Fans of "Shadowhunter" can catch the second season of the show when it premieres on Jan. 2, 2017 at 8 p.m. EST on Freeform.
