'Spider-Man: Homecoming' release date news: Robert Downey Jr. confirms Iron Man appearance in movie?

Only a few details about the official cast and story of the rebooted Spider-Man movie are known, but the recent appearance of "Captain America: Civil War" star Robert Downey Jr. on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" last week may have teased that his iconic character Tony Stark/Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe may appear in the upcoming movie.

The official title of the reboot is "Spider-Man Homecoming," and while Kimmel asked the actor if he will be making a special appearance in the Tom Holland-starrer film, Downey refused to give a direct answer. He did not say that Iron Man will not be featured in the movie that will welcome the web-slinging superhero in the MCU. However, he also did not confirm if his character will definitely be on it, stating that the final decision will be in the hands of Marvel Studios.

"Perhaps I will, we don't have a contract yet," Downey told Kimmel during the live interview last Wednesday. While Iron Man's appearance in "Spider-Man Homecoming" still seems to be up in the air, Heroic Hollywood made a remark saying that Downey's answer only shows that there have already been talks between him and Marvel Studios to appear in the movie. Only an official announcement or confirmation from Marvel Studios itself will be needed to know whether Iron Man will be seen in Peter Parker's solo movie.

Those fans who want to see Iron Man and Spider-Man together on screen and in action can have the first glimpse of their team-up in "Captain America: Civil War," which will arrive in theaters on May 6.

"Spider-Man Homecoming" only has a few confirmed cast members as of the meantime, with Marissa Tomei confirmed to play the role of Aunt May. Zendaya was also confirmed to sign up for a role in the film, although details have not been fully disclosed. Tom Holland was the first to be announced in the reboot as the teenage Peter Parker.

Last week, Holland himself announced "Spider-man Homecoming" as the official title of the Spider-man movie reboot during a surprise visit at CinemaCon, Telegraph UK reported. Along with the official title, the logo of the upcoming film was also revealed.

"Spider-Man Homecoming" will hit the theaters on July 7, 2017.
