'Star Wars Battlefront 2' release date news 2016: EA DICE outlines plans for sequel

Developer Electronic Arts has begun to look ahead into the future of its titles, including "Star Wars Battlefront 2." Just recently, the company spoke about the sequel, which many fans have started to become excited about.

In an interview with PC Gamer, game director Niklas Fegraeus talked about the possibility of having the Skirmish mode, which was recently added in the current iteration, to be inbuilt in "Star Wars Battlefront 2."

"It's something the fans have been talking about for a very long time," he admitted during the chat. "It's been on the forums, it's one of the most requested things, to play offline in our big modes. And that's what Skirmish is about," he added.

Fegraeus did not have a lot to say about "Star Wars Battlefront 2," but he did imply that whatever the mistakes they made in the first one will be rectified in the follow-up.

"Obviously, though, with everything you do, there are learnings. We've done a lot of stuff with Skirmish mode, with expansion packs, and a bunch of other things, and all of the stuff we've learned there we'll of course bring with us going into the next one," he said.

For "Star Wars Battlefront 2," EA DICE will work with budding studio Motive. The company actually has a hand in an upcoming addition to the current game and EA even said they are making great progress.

It was revealed at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016 that "Star Wars Battlefront 2" will incorporate upcoming Disney-produced "Star Wars" films.

Notably, however, "Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens" has yet to make a proper inclusion in the game, so the sequel might finally rectify that.

With regards to upcoming Disney projects in the offing such as the "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" film, this spinoff will come to the current title as a downloadable content (DLC) called "Rogue One Scarif."
