"Supernatural" season 12 promises to be more emotionally-driven with Mary Winchester's return, and action-packed now that Castiel is back to being his old, badass self. However, rumors about the show's fate are casting a shadow over the hype.

Previous spoilers for the upcoming installment of the hit supernatural series hint that it will be going "old school" with new elements to amp up the storyline. There are even talks that the world of hunters will be given focus in season 12 as Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) fight the Men of Letters with Castiel (Misha Collins) and their mom Mary (Samatha Smith).

Nevertheless, along with the exciting tidbits of information about "Supernatural" season 12 are speculations that the series will end here. According to Morning News USA, talks are rife that the long-running supernatural TV series will end after the 12th season due to poor ratings.

There are also speculations that lead stars Ackles and Padalecki want a spin-off segment in case the original series goes off the air after season 12. So what's the deal?

No less than The CW president Mark Pedowitz debunked the rumors about the show's cancellation in a recent interview with Variety.

"As long as ratings stay stable, and they want to do the show, and I'm still in the chair, I'm going to be their biggest supporter to continue," Pedowitz said.

That's Pedowitz subtly stating that the show is doing well in terms of ratings and viewership.

"I think 'Supernatural' is going to be around in some form long after I move off this chair, and the best thing I can do for the guys, and for the studio, and for the showrunners is basically make sure we don't mess them up," he continued.

It looks like as long as Ackles, Padalecki, Collins, and the rest of the cast are enjoying the show and working hard to offer something great to the viewers every episode, the show will continue. Besides, Collins, who plays the fan-favorite angel in the series will apparently get a whole lot of loving in the upcoming installment.

According to reports, several standalone episodes are being prepared for Castiel. In fact, the arcs will probably touch on his angel backstory. Collins likewise revealed that his character will be teaming up with Crowley (Mark Shepard) to mete out Lucifer's (Rick Springfield) doom.

Cancellation rumors aside, it looks like the series will be seeing great days ahead, hopefully good enough to extend its life.

"Supernatural" season 12 will premiere on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 9 p.m. on The CW.
