'Switched at Birth' season 5 air date, spoilers: Daphne and Bay return home; Toby and Lily getting married

"Switched at Birth" season 5 still has a long way to go before it returns to the small screen, but at least Freeform has already announced a premiere date for it.

A trailer for the upcoming season was already released as well, and it teases some of the major events that will unfold in the lives of protagonists, Daphne Vasquez (Katie Leclerc) and Bay Kennish (Vanessa Marano).

According to spoiler reports, Daphne and Bay will be heading home to Kansas from China. After receiving a mysterious phone call, the two packed up their bags and flew back as soon as possible. It's still not known what the phone call was about or who called, but speculations suggest that it had something to do with the Kennish matriarch and patriarch.

John Kennish (D.W. Moffet) and Kathryn Kennish (Lea Thompson) may be having another marital issue, which prompted Bay and Daphne to hurry back home. John and Kathryn may have decided to have a divorce once and for all, and they wanted their children to know.

The promo also teased that Toby Kennish (Lucas Grabeel) and Lily (Rachel Shenton) have announced that they are getting married. After having a baby together, the two will decide to seal their family with marriage.

Other spoilers also hint that trouble is brewing for Daphne and her boyfriend, Mingo (Adam Hagenbuch). The two will attend a party and dress up as rapper Lil Wayne. However, their intention of being fun will backfire as their black classmates will not like their idea. The two will end up making enemies.

Bay, on the other hand, will be having her own boy issues as her relationship with Travis gets complicated. Will the two ever work things out?

Regina Vasquez (Constance Marie) will also be facing her own problems. She will have a new boyfriend, but her boyfriend is younger than her. This will cause some tension as the couple's relationship will not be approved by the family.

"Switched at Birth" season 5 will premiere on Jan. 24, 2017 at 9 p.m. ET on Freeform.
