Monarchy drama "The Crown," which is based on Peter Morgan's 2013 play titled "The Audience," is Netflix's most expensive show yet.

The forthcoming show will be following the life of then 25-year-old Queen Elizabeth II. The queen will be portrayed by Claire Foy, who portrayed Anne Boleyn in BBC2's "Wolf Hall." Prince Philip will be played by "Doctor Who" alum Matt Smith. Meanwhile, "Interstellar" actor John Lithgow will be giving life to Sir Winston Churchill.

Joining the aforementioned actors are Victoria Hamilton as the Queen Mother, Jared Harris as King George VI, Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret, and Dame Eileen Atkins as Queen Mary.

"The Crown" will be about how the 25-year-old Elizabeth II will assume the role of queen in a very intense period in Britain. The premiere season will be set in 1947.

According to The Independent, many might believe that the upcoming show will be similar to "Downton Abbey;" however, in terms of drama, Neflix's "The Crown" will have as much intensity as HBO's "Game of Thrones."

"Billy Elliot" director Stephen Daldry will be in charge of directing the series. The network has allotted a £100 million budget for a five-season series. Each season will showcase a decade of the queen's reign.

As described by Morgan, "'The Crown' is not only about the royal family but about an empire in decline, a world in disarray and the dawn of a new era. I am beyond thrilled to be reunited with partners from film, theatre and television for this epic project and delighted to be working for the first time with Netflix."

Morgan has written about the queen before. In 2007, he wrote "The Queen," and he followed it with the play "The Audience" in 2013.

"The Crown" will premiere on Netflix on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
