According to the official synopsis for the next episode titled "Highs & Lows," Jesus' biological father Gabe is supposed to show up one day to work on Stef and Lena's garage. However, he decides not to show up so Jesus takes on the job himself and gets seriously injured in the process. Mariana is exhausted with her robotics STEAM project while finding balance in her personal life so she takes Jesus' ADHD medications for a little energy boost. Callie and AJ will both find themselves in an awkward situation when Mike and Brandon return home earlier than expected. Meanwhile, Stef reveals to Mike that Brandon gave his settlement money for a hand injury to Cortney.

A promo trailer for episode 7 has been released, and it features some of the mishaps and problems in the story. Jesus' face is unrecognizable because of his injuries, with the first scene showing the whole family gathered around his hospital bed. "Someone will go one step too far," the voiceover says.

The clip then cuts to Callie and AJ sharing an intimate moment in bed before realizing that they weren't the only people inside the house. Stef and Lena appear to be having a serious conversation inside Stef's office. Lena holds her partner's hands, saying: "We need to talk to the kids." The next scene shows Mariana's friend asking her if she's alright after she took a pill of Jesus' medicine. The last moments of the trailer showed Callie surprised with Jude's anger towards her. "Stay out of my life for good," Jude tells his maternal half-sister.
