'The Lost City of Z' release date, latest news: Charlie Hunnam explores the Amazon in newest trailer

Amazon Studios and Bleecker Street have just unveiled the first official trailer for the upcoming film "The Lost City of Z."

"Terrible disease, murderous savages, the journey may well mean your life," an older man's voice is heard speaking at the beginning of the trailer.

According to the Daily Mail, the teaser is "visually-entrancing." The preview is filled with breathtaking shots of trees, rivers, and the wildlife, as well as the exciting scenes involving charging natives, deadly booby traps, and flying spears. The trailer displays nature's two essences: beauty and cruelty.

The film is based on David Grann's 2009 nonfiction book of the same name. According to Empire, the movie tells the story of Percy Fawcett (Charlie Hunnam) who traveled into the Amazon back in 1925 on a mapping quest. As a consequence of his journey, he suffered from a terrible case of malaria, and he also allegedly discovered a mythical city which he called the "Lost City of Z."

Mocked by his peers who believed that his discovery to be nothing but fraudulent, he brings his son and another companion to return to the city in order to prove his claim. However, the group was said to have disappeared without a trace, never to be heard from again.

"The Lost City of Z," directed by James Gray, stars (aside from Hunnam) actors such as Robert Pattinson ("The Twilight Saga"), Tom Holland ("Spider-Man: Homecoming"), Sienna Miller ("American Sniper"), Edward Ashley, Ian McDiarmid, Angus Macfadyen, Clive Francis, and Franco Nero.

According to Variety, the film is produced by Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner through Plan B Entertainment, including Dale Johnson and Anthony Katagas. Its executive producers are Marc Butan and MICA Entertainment's Julie B. May and Glenn Murray.

Amazon Studios and Bleecker Street will be launching "The Lost City of Z" first in Los Angeles and in New York on April 14, 2017. It will then be followed by a nationwide premiere scheduled on April 21, 2017.
