'Tokyo Ghoul' season 3 release date news update: Live action being prepared

There hasn't been any news on "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 and when it will be released, but the franchise happens to be the subject of a new project – a live-action film.

"Death Note" star Masataka Kubota and Fumika Shimizu from "My Neighbor Seki" were tapped to play the role of Ken Kaneki and Toka Kirishima respectively.

Production for the "Tokyo Ghoul" live-action film will begin this month and will wrap up in September in time for a planned summer premiere.

The "Tokyo Ghoul" live-action film is expected to tell the beginning of the story of "Tokyo Ghoul." However, there are rumors that it will somehow tie in to the anime, but there's no information regarding that yet.

Despite this news, there remains no update regarding "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 and when the new season will come out. However, there are some spoilers on what to expect.

According to reports, "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 will feature Kaneki in his new identity – Haise Sasaki, an Associate Special Class Ghoul Investigator.

He created this new identity after being captured by a group called Aogiri Tree, a terrorist organization of ghouls.

With that said, it could be that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 could also feature Ken Kaneki losing his memory, as what happened in the manga and what begun Kaneki taking on a new identity.

Meanwhile, there's also a report that instead of Ken, Toka will be the protagonist in "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 as the show follows her struggle in choosing a university to go to.

It is also expected that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 will be the anime's darkest season yet and that it will be faithful to the source material – the "Tokyo Ghoul" manga by Sui Ishida – than the second season, which was a complete diversion from the story.

"Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 is rumored to premiere later this year.
