'Vikings'season 4 air date, spoilers: Show to return later this year

After the mid-season finale of the fourth season of "Vikings" left the show in hiatus, fans have been waiting to find out the fate of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) after he flees from the Paris war. The "Vikings" official page answered a fan with a tweet teasing about the show's return in the latter part of the year. 

After his defeat at the hands of the Parisians, or more specifically, his brother Rollo (Clive Standen), Ragnar has been left demoralized, and his reputation among the Norsemen and even his own sons could be nothing but lost. Upon Ragnar's return to Kattegat, he found that, in his absence, his people have lost faith in him. He then goes on to challenge his sons and even the villagers to kill him and claim themselves as king.

International Business Times reports that the next episode will focus more on Bjorn's (Alexander Ludwig) story, with him having to choose between his father and the position of king. It is also reported that he will be exploring more lands as he sails to the Mediterranean, Spain, and Africa.

Show creator Michael Hirst told The Hollywood Reporter that "Historical Ragnar's apparent fear was that his sons would become more famous than he did." He then goes on to say that Ragnar's son Bjorn did indeed become more famous than Ragnar for his exploits, and even Ragnar's son Ivar the Boneless became famous for his attacks on England and Ireland.

IB Times also reports that Titan Comics will release a comic book series called "Vikings: Uprising." It will narrate the struggles of Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) as she attempts to escape the battle of Paris immediately after the events of the midseason finale.

Expect "Vikings" to come back again sometime in the year on The History Channel. With the "Game of Thrones" hype dying down, fans need another show where medieval warriors clash swords in a mad struggle for power.
