'Alan Wake' on Xbox One Sequel Possible; Survival Horror Game Could Be Back
When the game "Alan Wake" was released in 2010 on the Xbox 360, it quickly became popular with those who had a taste for survival horror games.
As an indication of its popularity, "Alan Wake" rose to dominate the charts on Steam following its release. At that time, Remedy Entertainment, the game developer, acknowledged that it had already recovered the money spent on development and marketing of the game within days of its sale.
But surprisingly, Remedy Entertainment chose not to create a sequel. Instead Remedy opted to work on "Quantum Break," a game due for release on the Xbox One in 2016.
Remedy recently appeared to have a change of mind, announcing the "possibility" of bringing "Alan Wake" to Xbox One. There are indications that it could be offered as a pre-order incentive for those who want to buy "Quantum Break."
News about the possible port of "Alan Wake" to Xbox One came during an interview that Sam Lake, the creative Director at Remedy, gave to Polygon. He clarified though that no plans have been firmed up yet, saying they were just "discussing the possibility with Microsoft" and that he hoped it would happen. As for a remastered version being released on PlayStation 4, he said this was unlikely.
As for a sequel to "Alan Wake," Remedy showed a video showing a prototype for the project which it said it later abandoned. Despite this, the developer said the sequel could still happen, and that this would come to a broader range of consoles including the PS4.
The game is based on the life of the character Alan Wake who is not a gamer's typical hero. Wake is a laid-back author of best-selling thrillers who soon discovers that there are supernatural events happening in the town of Bright Falls, Washington, where his wife disappeared during a vacation.
