'Alien: Covenant' release date, news: Katherine Waterston talks about her character; James Franco confirms role
When Ridley Scott is directing an "Alien" film, expect a lot of hype. As part of 20th Century Fox's 2017 Film Showcase event earlier this month, Katherine Waterston shared some details (via The Slanted) about her character in "Alien: Covenant."
Waterston revealed that Daniels was a colonist/scientist in the film, but she's more than capable of holding her own when the stakes were high. "I think she's just one of those people, who, if her kids were in a car that was on fire, she'd be able to lift up the car," she stated.
She said Daniels had some issues regarding the Covenant's destination, and the character was supposed to have good instincts. Well, the crew better listen to someone who has good instincts if they want to stay out of trouble.
Footages from the film were also shown during the event and Waterston joked that she felt like she was going to throw up after watching them. She explained that this was the first time she has seen footage from the film, and the scene was "nauseating on two levels."
Meanwhile, James Franco has finally confirmed that he's appearing in "Alien: Covenant."
"The news is out, I guess? I remember when I was a kid watching Alien for the first time and that was huge. I just watched it in the past month ... it's such a good movie. It's so tight, full of tension. It's really just a horror movie in space ... So it's great to be a part of it," he said during an interview with Hey U Guys (via Looper).
AvP Galaxy has reported that Franco is going to be playing Branson, the Covenant's captain and Daniels' husband. Franco will only appear briefly. Branson will mostly appear in the first ten minutes of the film, but he will make smaller appearances later on.
"Alien: Covenant" is scheduled to premiere on May 19, 2017.
