The upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017 will feature AMD's most awaited video card — the AMD Vega. The company posted on its social media account a website that starts the countdown of the graphics processing unit (GPU).
The clock is set to end on Jan. 5 at exactly 9:00 a.m. ET, which is the opening day of the grand CES 2017 event. The imminent graphics card has been talked about by enthusiasts since it will reportedly replace that Radeon RX 400 cards.
AMD confirmed that two GPUs will come out at CES 2017, the Vega 11 and Vega 10, with the latter speculated to be the Radeon RX 500. The company has set up a website to begin the countdown for the GPUs' launch, aside from a YouTube video to promote the cards.
AMD Radeon RX 500 is said to belong to the Vega 10 lines and its launch has debunked the rumors that it would be on par with Nvidia's hit graphics cards, GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070.
In an article by WCCFTech, Radeon RX 500 is expected to have improved specs and performance such as enhanced memory bandwidth speed. It is also possible that the card will have the Instinct M125 Accelerator, which can potentially deliver 12.5 teraflops of computation in a single-to-double precision ratio of 2:1 or in a single precision setting.
The latest leak also indicates that the upcoming card will have two variants, 8 GB and 16 GB, the latter with 512 Gbps of memory bandwidth. Both variants run on HBM2 interface. The publication translates it has a 2,048-bit memory bus at 100 MHz, or possible 4,096-bit memory bus at 500 MHz.
Aside from Radeon RX 500, AMD is also gearing up for the announcement of the Ryzen, which is believed to be the company's best chip family in 10 years. The desktop processor is said to be more affordable than Intel's i7-6900K.
