AMD Radeon RX 490 release date update: New AMD processor set to launch next week?

A new graphic processor from AMD is expected to be introduced in the market next week at the manufacturer's event. Called Radeon RX 490, it is expected to be a lot faster and better than RX 480.

According to Headlines & Global News, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., or AMD, is expected to release a new graphics processor called Radeon RX 490 at their New Horizon event on Dec. 13, along with other new devices, such as its "Zen" processor architecture and the "Summit Ridge" desktop CPUs.

The architecture that is speculated to be used in the RX 490 is Vega, and according to Digital Trends, it will be the graphics processor that caters more to consumers, such as video gamers, based on the recently released performance test.

WCCFTECH reports that the RX 490 has already been tested against the 4X 480 and the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 with the game of "Ashes of the Singularity" on its DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 modes. The new RX 490 had a performance that was on par with the GeForce GTX 1080.

Because of the benchmark from its "Ashes of the Singularity" performance test, it is unlikely that the Radeon RX 490 will house two graphic chips.

The other anticipated features of AMD Radeon RX 490 are the 4K resolution to service VR support and a bus width greater than 256 bits, and it is expected to be based on either the dual-GPU Polaris 10 design or the Vega 10.

The graphics processor is speculated to obtain an 8 GB HBM2 memory, and it will be priced around the same range as the GTX 1080, which is one of its close competitors in the market. The AMD Radeon RX 490 is also expected to be the fastest of the Radeon RX 400 series.

The AMD Radeon RX 490 is anticipated to debut in the company's New Horizon event on Dec. 13.
