AMD Ryzen release date, specs news: new benchmark listing leaked
More details about AMD's upcoming Ryzen line of processors proved that it could beat Intel upon its release in 2017.
French tech website Canard PC leaked a new benchmark that showcased the gaming and general computing performance of AMD's next-generation processors based on what seemed to be an engineering sample of a central processing unit (CPU), which has a base clock of 3.15GHz and a boost clock of 3.3GHz. The leaked benchmark was posted via Reddit.
Though the benchmark leak was written in French, the graph showed that the upcoming AMD processor could surpass the performance of Intel's popular CPU chipsets.
Based on the video encoding and rendering performance, the AMD 2D3151A2M88E seemed to perform better compared with Intel's Core i5 by 168.7 percent. According to Extreme Tech, the eight-core Ryzen chip can also work better compared with the six-core Intel Core i7-6800K. However, it can still be beaten by the octacore Intel Core i7-6900K since it has a higher boost clock of 3.7GHz.
The leaked benchmark also noted the upcoming CPU's game performance when tested against several video game titles including "Far Cry 4," "Grid: Autosport," "The Witcher 3," "BF4," "Arma III," "X3: TC," as well as the "Anno 2070."
The report noted that most game titles work best using at least four cores, and only a small number of games can truly benefit from using more than four cores for better performance. Based on the translated text, "If the results seem much more disappointing across the average of video games tested, keep in mind that the prototype tested was an 8-core with a fairly low frequency (particularly in Turbo mode). However, the games remain very sensitive to frequency and still struggle to exploit more than four cores."
Other reports also claimed that AMD will release the upcoming Ryzen chip product line by the first quarter of 2017. Specifically, the new platform will officially come out by the end of February while the global mass shipments could come by March.
