AMD Vega 10 GPU release date, specs rumors: AMD Vega 10 to compete against GTX 1080 and GTX 1070
While many are waiting for the debut of AMD Vega 11 in 2017, which was codenamed Magnum, gamers and tech enthusiasts are also anticipating the debut of the AMD Vega 10 Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). The latter is expected to launch before the end of 2016 and compete against the leading GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 NVIDIA Pascal video cards.
Last August, Senior Director of Global Marketing and Public Relations at AMD Chris Hook posted an image of the Vega launch venue on Facebook. Soon after, many speculated that the AMD Radeon RX 490 and other cards will host the Vega 10 GPU.
At that time, reports suggested that the Vega 10 will be launched in two to three months after Hook posted the photo. Although there have not been any official pronouncements, the anticipated Vega 10 launch is expected to happen most probably in the last quarter of 2016.
AMD's Vega 10 GPU, also known by the codename Greenland, is the next generation of high performance graphics architecture from AMD. It is reportedly based on the Graphics Core Next (GCN) structure of AMD.
Rumor has it that it will feature a 14nm FinFET technology, a second-generation high bandwidth memory and a 2048-bit memory bus. With its rumored 4096 next generation v9 cores with 2 teraflops, Vega 10 is expected to compete and exceed the GTX Titan X of NVIDIA.
AMD Vega GPU's is expected to have 4K gaming video cards. Hence, it could supersede the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 cards. Both Vega 10 and 11 are believed to be 4k gaming video cards more powerful than the NVIDIA counterparts. On the other hand, NVIDIA is rumored to be launching the GTX 20 series next year, which will reportedly dethrone the Radeon cards.
Though the AMD Vega 10 is rumored to launch before the Vega 11, both are expected to be affordable high-end GPUs in 2017.
Watch out for more updates on AMD's Vega 10.
