Ryan Murphy will once again work with best-selling author, Jeffrey Toobin, in a future season of "American Crime Story" that will center on the explosive Monica Lewinsky scandal.

The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reveals that Toobin's book, "A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President," has been optioned by Murphy to be given a TV adaptation in the critically acclaimed true crime anthology series.

The book talked about the highly publicized affair between former U.S. president Bill Clinton and White House intern Monica Lewinsky between 1995 up to 1996.

The report reveals that sources are saying that Murphy and the show's producers are already working on the project and meeting up with possible actresses who can portray the role of Lewinsky as well as her colleague Linda Trapp, the one who recorded the conversation between the president and the intern. Clinton had faced impeachment raps due to the scandal, but he was ultimately acquitted by the U.S. Senate.

Murphy used Toobin's other book, "The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson," for the show's first season.

The Lewinsky–Clinton plot may be used in the fourth season of "American Crime Story," since the production of the second and third seasons are currently underway.

According to reports, season 2 will focus on the events that happened during the Hurricane Katrina. Meanwhile, the third season will center on the story regarding the assassination of the legendary fashion designer Gianni Versace back in 1997. Season 2 is expected to air in 2018, while the third season is scheduled to air six months after.

Details about the second and third seasons of the series are still kept under wraps, but Murphy previously shot down rumors that singer-actress Lady Gaga will portray the role of Gianni's sister Donatella in season 3.

More details about the future seasons of "American Crime Story" are expected to be revealed by FOX in the coming days.
