Android 5.0 Lollipop Release Date for Nexus 4, 5, 7, 10 and Other Smartphones
Google recently unveiled its new Android 5.0 Lollipop mobile operating system which, the company says, will allow "more time playing, less time charging" aside from extending Android device power by up to 90 minutes.
Google's Lollipop announcement on its website carries this tagline: "The smarts of Android on screens big and small. Android powers your watch, your TV and even your car."
Originally introduced as Android L, the Android 5.0 Lollipop also allows smartphone owners to create multiple accounts to enable other people to use the device but with limited access for added security, Google says.
The mobile operating system is now available on Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus 10, as well as the HTC One (M8) and Moto G. It will also be made available for the Nexus 5, 7 and 10.
According to International Business Times, it will also be rolled out to "Moto X (1st and 2nd Gen), Moto G (1st and 2nd Gen), Moto G with 4G LTE, Moto E, Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, Droid Mini, HTC One, HTC One (M8), Galaxy S5, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, LG G, OnePlus One, and Sony devices that were released in the last one year."
Nexus users are wondering whether it will also be available for the Nexus 4 as it is not mentioned anywhere on the Android website.
Traditionally, Google stops providing support for devices more than 18 months old. This led to assumptions that the OS availability for the Nexus 4 may be unlikely.
However, Google has confirmed that Nexus 4 will be getting the update.
On Google+, Sascha Prüter, Android Engineering Program Manager, posted, "I know there is a meme for this somewhere but... be assured the missing "Nexus 4" in the Lollipop update notice is just a mistake, we are fixing it now :) Now please put down your pitchforks again and let's have some candy!"
