Android 7.0 Nougat update release date news: update for Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge is out
Google has released the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system (OS) in August last year, and some Android phone manufacturers have already updated their device to the latest OS. However, others were a little slow to act and consumers have been waiting patiently.
Now Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge users don't have to wait much longer because the company has finally rolled out the update for the smartphones.
"Following weeks of testing, Samsung has finally begun rolling out the official Android Nougat update for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. Those on the Nougat beta should be seeing an update around 215 MB in size; regular users will get the update as well, although Samsung is giving the early bird advantage to those running the beta version," SamMobile's Abhijeet M. said in his report.
GSMArena.com has noted that the update has arrived sooner than expected. It was supposed to come out on Jan. 17, but Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge phones that were running the beta version were already getting the over-the-air (OTA) update notification. Nobody's complaining, of course. The sooner it comes out, the better.
The publication also said that phones running the stable build were not notified; however, it would only be a matter of time before they get it. Everyone with a Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge phone should get an OTA update by next week.
It should be noted that the update is for Android 7.0 Nougat, not Android 7.1.1 as previously reported. But at least the latest security patch is included.
BGR has reported that other goodies are also included in the update. "A new UX is included in the package, as well as various 'performance modes' and other improvements," BGR's Chris Smith stated in his piece about the update.
GSMArena.com also said the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge will get a "new notification system, improved multiwindow mode, and improved user interface (UI) and performance."
