Three months since they were officially announced to cater to the audio jack-less iPhone 7, the AirPods are finally hitting the shelves, as announced by Apple in a surprise press release. The wireless earbuds, which retail at a hefty $159 are now available for pre-purchase and will be delivered by Dec. 21, making for a great on-time Christmas present. However, for those who are still having second thoughts about paying a pricey amount for the Bluetooth device, it is important to note that orders to be made late Tuesday morning next week will be already be delivered past Christmas.

Furthermore, Apple also reiterates that quantities for the AirPods are limited given that they are just being rolled out. So it is best to check the online status of the device to at least have an idea on its availability.

The wireless earbuds have been the subject of mockery since their announcement given their design. In the past couple of months, its production and eventual public rollout have hit a couple of snags with a latest report from Wall Street Journal revealing that the Cupertino-based company is having problems with its design. Still, Apple continued to forge through hoping that the initial reaction that they got from the public eventually changes when official reviews of the AirPods come in.

The announcement also gives detailed step-by-step instructions on how the earbuds work as well as a brief description of the product and what makes it different and more expensive than normal earphones.

"AirPods are immediately set up with all the devices signed into your iCloud account, including your Apple Watch, iPad and Mac. Advanced sensors detect when AirPods are in your ear and can automatically play and pause your music. Double tapping on AirPods activates Siri, allowing you to access your favorite personal assistant to select and control your music, get directions, make and receive calls or perform any other Siri task," an excerpt from the statement reads.

AirPods are now available in more than 100 territories including Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, France, Germany, India, Mexico, Netherlands, Japan, UAE, the United Kingdom and the United States. Although it is already sold via Apple.com, select Apple Authorized Resellers will only be starting carrying it next week.
