'Assassin's Creed' movie release date, news and updates: Michael Fassbender compares franchise to 'Star Wars'

December is close by and a lot of fans are eagerly anticipating the arrival of Michael Fassbender's live-action adaptation of the hit video game franchise, "Assassin's Creed." Fassbender takes some time to comment on the movie, and he compares it to another hit franchise, "Star Wars."

In an interview with Empire Online, Fassbender talks about how the characters have a moral gray area unlike the characters in "Star Wars." He says, "It's not like Star Wars, where you've got the light side and the dark side. This is very ambiguous morally. Both of these parties – the Templars and the Assassins – are hypocritical at certain points. There are not clear-cut good and bad characters. I think it's a little more provocative for an audience to see that. You know, 'Should I be feeling that? Should I be backing this character?' That's always fun."

Interestingly enough, Fassbender has worked with morally gray characters in previous roles. Before he was jumping around roofs and working as an ancient assassin, Fassbender played Magneto aka Erik Lehnsherr in the rebooted "X-men" franchise. Though the character is mainly considered as a villain, some still say that Magneto is a character with a noble cause.

After the poor reception of the "Warcraft" movie this year, a lot of fans are hoping that "Assassin's Creed" will finally give audiences the hit video game movie that they want.

In other news, a new clip has been released of Fassbender's character, Callum Lynch, entering the Animus for the first time. The clip also features Marion Cotillard, who seems to be the head of the program, and fans get a look at the classic wrist-blade weapons that are signature in the "Assassin's Creed" games.

"Assassin's Creed" is set for release on Wednesday, Dec. 21.
