'Attack on Titan' season 2 air date, spoilers: S2 to diverge from season 1 story line; new set of characters
The upcoming "Attack on Titan" season 2, which was recently confirmed after years of silence from Wit Studio, will reportedly diverge from the season 1 story line and could even introduce a whole new set of characters.
It took nearly three years of waiting before fans finally got confirmation that the second season of "Attack on Titan," the anime based on the popular Japanese manga series of the same title, will actually be made. Although Wit Studio has yet to reveal any specifics about the upcoming sophomore season, rumors about the season 2 plot indicate that it will take a detour from that of season 1.
A source reported that season 2 will follow a completely different direction that is unlike anything in the original manga story line. The website noted that while most new seasons of anime adaptations will not air until a new story arc is introduced in the source material, "Attack on Titan" season 2 will seemingly jump the gun and go into production even though the manga is not sufficiently ahead in terms of the ploy.
GamenGuide also notes that there are three new story arcs written by "Attack on Titan" writer Hajime Isayama that may be enough to cover season 2. Chatt Sports suggested that this includes the "Clash of the Titans" arc and the "Uprising" arc.
The "Clash of the Titans" story arc reportedly consists of 15 chapters and is the fifth story in the manga. Meanwhile, the "Uprising" story arc, the sixth story in the manga, consists of 36 chapters. Many fans reportedly believe that taken together, these two story arcs should be enough for season 2.
In a previous report, GamenGuide noted that given the new story line in season 2, the upcoming chapter of the anime could also introduce a whole new lineup of characters.
In addition, "Attack on Titan" season 2 could reportedly feature two new types of Titans, namely the Beast Titans and the Ape-like Titans.
The outlet added that the new season of "Attack on Titan" is expected to be out by spring 2017.
