'Attack on Titan' Season 2 Release Date, Latest News: Live Action Films Have August and September 2015 Premieres
While fans of the anime series "Attack on Titan" eagerly await the release of Season 2, slated for release in 2016, two "Attack on Titan" live action movies debuting in the U.S. in August and September this year could satisfy their cravings for the meantime.
Mixed reactions greeted the news on the upcoming live action movies. Some fans thought the movies might even tarnish or ruin the anime series.
Casting news, however, seemed to have reassured the fans since the selected actors and actresses were deemed to be acceptable.
There is no assurance of course as to how the movies will fare in Hollywood, despite the fame of the manga hit series. The franchise will be produced by Toho Studios, which will also be releasing the Godzilla franchise the following year. Special effects will be provided by the acclaimed Higuchi ("God Warriors Appears in Tokyo" and "Evangelion Series").
Detractors are predicting that the movie would flunk. One this is sure though: Fans who can't wait to get their "Attack on Titan" fix until 2016 can go out and see the movie as a prelude to the release of Season 2.
The story of "Attack on Titan" initially centers on Eren Yeager, his adopted sister Mikasa Ackerman, and their childhood friend Armin Arlert, who join the military to fight the Titans after their hometown is invaded and Eren's mother is eaten.
However, as the story progresses and the truths about the Titans are slowly revealed, the main narrative shifts, centering more around Historia Reiss, one of the top soldiers from the Survey Corps and the youngest child of the ruling family within the walls, of which the long-kept secrets are directly connected to the origin of the Titans and the lost history of the world.
"Attack on Titan" started as a manga series, but it has spun off into novels, an anime TV series, anime films, live action films and video games—garnering both commercial and critical success.
