After it was first announced in 2015 and originally scheduled to drop mid-April this year, the highly anticipated second season of the popular anime "Attack on Titan" is being delayed and is now reportedly aiming for an early 2017 release.

"Attack on Titan" is a Japanese anime adaptation of the popular manga of the same name. It is produced by WitStudio and Production I.G. The anime's freshman season aired on the Japanese network MBS in 2013.

According to Game n Guide, "Attack on Titan" season 2 is now scheduled for a February 2017 release to give the team behind the Japanese anime time to work on their other project, the anime series "Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress."

Tetsuro Araki, who helms "Attack on Titan," is also the director behind "Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress."

Earlier this year, reports also came out indicating that the second season of "Attack on Titan" is being delayed to give the team behind the manga time to make new content. MoviePilot reported that the people working on the anime wanted the manga to be at least four story arcs ahead of the TV series. Thus, instead of creating their own content, which would deviate from the source material, the team behind the anime halted production to give the manga time to get ahead.

In the meantime, "Attack on Titan" fans are getting impatient over the long overdue second season. As they wait, various speculations have popped up about what will happen in season 2.

A new story arc called the "Clash of Titans" could play out, Crossmap suggested. According to the outlet, there are members of the squad that can turn into Titans. These include Reiner, Bertolt, Braun, and Ymir.

The report indicated that Reiner could be the Armored Titan and that Bertolt could be the Colossal Titan.

Apart from the new story arc and the revelation of these new Titans, the second season is also expected to introduce a "beast-like" Titan who may be behind the attacks on the walled city.

The official release date for "Attack on Titan" season 2 has yet to be announced.
