'Avatar 2' release date, news: Sigourney Weaver says sequels are 'many times more amazing' than the first film
Aside from the fact that the sequels are supposed to revolve around Jake (Sam Worthington), Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and their children, not much is known about the plotline for the second "Avatar" movie. Is the storyline in the sequels going to be as good as that of the first film?
In an interview with Variety, Sigourney Weaver was asked about the "Avatar" sequels and how they are shaping up. She said she had read the script and she thinks they are going to be even better than the original film.
"In my opinion, the three scripts I've read so far are many times more amazing than the first one in terms of their scope. He did a lot of the heavy lifting in the first movie, establishing the family and the relationships and the world, and now he really gets to play."
Well, Weaver is supposed to say good things about a film franchise she is connected with, but her statement also indicates that director/writer James Cameron is willing to pull out all the stops to maintain or even surpass the high standards of the first film.
Cameron's recent comment about how he wants to give moviegoers a glass-free 3D experience with the sequels may seem like wishful thinking to some, but at least he is ambitious enough to think of the possibility.
After a long wait, fans may finally see "Avatar 2" two years from now. 20th Century Fox had reshuffled its release schedules last week and some people noticed that the studio had dated an untitled film from Lightstorm Entertainment for Dec. 21, 2018. Well, it didn't take long for fans to realize that this could be the official release date for "Avatar 2." Industry insiders also believe that the other sequels film will follow in 2020, 2022 and 2023.
Production is supposed to start in early 2017, and they are planning to film all four sequels simultaneously.
