'Bates Motel' season 5 news: Latest trailer teases Marion Crane's fate; new photos show set being demolished
"Bates Motel" returns later this month, and a new teaser for season 5 has been released.
Following Norma's (Vera Farmiga) death, Norman (Freddie Highmore) is still denying that his mother is gone. With the Ink Spots' "We'll Meet Again" playing in the background, the show's latest preview kicks off with Norman preparing for his usual day as the Bates Motel manager. It's as if Norma never died, as she is seen making breakfast for her son and later greets him while holding a plate.
"You ever have the feeling that you've had the same nightmare over and over again and that you can't remember it ... just remember the feeling of it?" Norman asks in the clip. The scene cuts to the direction season 5 will take, including the introduction of Rihanna as the iconic "Psycho" character Marion Crane. She was brutally killed in the 1960s cult classic directed by Alfred Hitchcock, but "Bates Motel" showrunner Kerry Ehrin previously promised that the series will only pay tribute to the original film instead of being a complete remake.
Although fans are excited to see the arrival of new characters, season 5 is also bittersweet because it's the beginning of the end. New photos released by Vancouver Sun shows the destruction of the A&E drama's set located in Aldergrove, British Columbia. Earlier this month, filming for the final season concluded, and it didn't take long for a crew to take down the iconic Bates Motel and the Bates house. In 2011, the popular Bates home and motel were created by a TV crew at the former Jackman Landfill site in south Aldergrove.
Launched in 2013, "Bates Motel" centers on Norman Bates' formative years and his close relationship with his widowed mother, Norma. The story is told through Norman's perspective, and it explores how he evolved into a psychopathic murderer.
The fifth and final season of "Bates Motel" premieres on Monday, Feb. 20, at 10 p.m. ET on A&E.
