'Bates Motel' season 5 release date, spoilers: Marion's boyfriend being cast; character's sister to be added too?
"Bates Motel" season 5 has found its Marion Crane in singer Rihanna. Now, the search is on for the iconic character's boyfriend Sam in an effort to be as loyal as possible to "Psycho," a film directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
According to TVLine, Sam is a "sexy devil for whom a woman might consider embezzling a small fortune," referring to Marion.
In the classic film, Sam and Marion, who works as a real estate secretary, could not get married because of the former's debts, forcing her to steal money from a client.
The actor the show is looking to play the role of Sam should, as described by the aforementioned site, be an "edgy hunk." There's no word yet if an actor has already landed the role.
TVLine also believes that apart from Marion's boyfriend, "Bates Motel" season 5 will also likely cast Marion's sister Lila, who started looking for her when she went missing.
However, there's no official word about that yet. But since the show aims to be loyal to "Psycho," it won't be a shock if the search for a portrayer for Lila will be announced.
With regards to Rihanna's casting as Marion announced earlier this year, it was a pleasant surprise for many that got them more excited to see the singer bring the role to life in "Bates Motel" season 5.
Her introduction in the series is set to be a "big moment," as per executive producer Carlton Cuse. Fans are also thrilled to see Rihanna do her take on Marion's iconic shriek from the shower scene in "Psycho."
Speaking more about what to expect in "Bates Motel" season 5 in terms of adapting the film, Cuse explained via TVLine that they will do their version of the horror film.
"We will be colliding with certain events in the narrative of the film, but it would be boring to just recreate Psycho," he stated. With that said, expect some twist and tweaks of the story in the series.
"Bates Motel" season 5 will premiere next year on A&E.
