Batman vs Superman Movie 2016 Release Date: Latest Cast News and Spoilers Emerge

Batman, a mere mortal, fighting the mighty Superman? Although the odds are heavily in favor of the Son of Krypton, the clash is still highly anticipated as the new "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" movie is set for release on March 25, 2016.

Director Zack Snyder is currently filming the movie which stars Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman. Snyder was also the director of "Man of Steel," Cavill's first movie as Superman.

Taking off from the last Superman movie, the "Dawn of Justice" will see Clark Kent (aka Kal-El) dealing with the aftermath from the World Engine attack from General Zod's Kryptonian army, sources said. Leaked photos show Metropolis (the fictional city in "Man of Steel") has been subjected to a new cataclysmic event, or is still recovering from the destruction wrought by the Kryptonian army.

Then from out of the blue comes Bruce Wayne who suits up as Batman to show Superman that mankind does not need an alien with superhuman powers to solve its problems.

A Comic-Con footage leaked online shows a moody Affleck in Batman suit in the rain, lighting up a bat signal. He is seen facing Superman who looks as intense as him, both with glowing eyes.

The palpable tension between the two DC characters indicates a clash between them at least in the early part of Snyder's film. Many fans believe, however, that the two superheroes will eventually reconcile and unite to thwart a common enemy.

To date, Warner Bros. has not released an official plot of the movie.

What is known is that Lex Luthor will return as the scheming villain to once pose a challenge to Superman and, for the first time, Batman as well. Luthor will be played by Jessie Eisenberg.

The movie will feature other DC superheroes, including Diana of Themyscira (aka Wonder Woman), to be played by Gal Gadot.

Making cameo appearances are Ray Fisher and Jason Momoa as Victor Stone (aka Cyborg) and Aquaman, respectively. Stone is a young man who turns into Cyborg, a half-robot superhero.

The movie also stars Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White and Diane Lane as Martha Kent.

Although Warner Bros is still largely silent on the movie, Affleck has spilled some of the details in the upcoming blockbuster.

When Affleck's casting was announced last year, many fans reacted negatively in online chat. They said he's too old, can't act, and isn't right for the part.

But with "Batman v Superman" already filming, the fans have finally accepted Affleck playing the role of the Cape Crusader.

During a recent interview with the UK Sunday Times, Affleck responded to the initial fan reaction regarding his casting: "That terror when I'm about to start something can be motivating. It helps me kick my ass into gear, because I think, 'Oh my God, I'm gonna ruin the movie, I'm gonna not know what to do.' That's definitely a good, driving factor for me."

Affleck said the new Batman will be as dark and angry as Christian Bale's Dark Knight. "I think it's a necessity, historically, in the tradition of these films. For me, anger is so deeply buried and contained that when it does kind of come out, it comes out in stronger bursts," he said.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. president of worldwide production Greg Silverman announces that the studio plans to make a Justice League movie, with Snyder set to direct. Seeking to create a cinematic "DC Universe" to rival Marvel's "Avengers" series, Warner Bros. is looking forward to a mega-movie featuring Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Aquaman and the Martian Manhunter.
