'Better Call Saul' season 3 spoilers, plot news: new teaser promises more 'Breaking Bad'
A new promo for "Better Call Saul" season 3 shows that it is not forgetting its roots and that "Breaking Bad" could be a bigger part of the new season.
There is not much to take away from the clip as it was only a compilation of the references of "Better Call Saul" to its parent series.
It does tease that there will be more where that came from in "Better Call Saul" season 3. After all, the photos from the set show Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) as Gene of Omaha in "Breaking Bad."
This suggests that "Better Call Saul" season 3 will go as far as to show what became of the titular character after the events of the original series.
Fans know that he is working as a Cinnabon manager by the end of the show. It will be interesting to see more of that life in the ongoing prequel series.
Additionally, it also introduces a new approach in telling the story of Jimmy, who will be close to being his cunning self, Saul Goodman, in "Better Call Saul" season 3.
Speaking about taking "Breaking Bad" into account in telling Jimmy's tale, co-showrunner Peter Gould told Digital Spy that it is much like a "double-edged sword."
"I can't tell you how many times, in the writers' room, we've got excited about a pitch ... only to have something that happened in Breaking Bad rule it out. It shoots down a lot of possibilities that we could otherwise explore," he explained.
"But having said that ... A lot of the time, we're scouring Breaking Bad for clues, a little bit the way the audience is, to try to understand the characters and how they got to be the people who they are," he went on to say.
Gould said that while "Breaking Bad" poses limitations in what they can do in "Better Call Saul," it also helps them figure out where to go next.
Indeed, "Better Call Saul" season 3 will be full of "Breaking Bad" love with Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) and more also expected to make their presence known.
"Better Call Saul" season 3 premieres early next year on AMC.
