'Better Call Saul' season 3 spoilers, plot rumors: Co-creators talk about Chuck's character
After the heartbreaking finale of "Better Call Saul" season 2, many are left wondering how Jimmy and Chuck's relationship will progress.
Fans witnessed the conniving nature of Chuck in the previous season of the "Breaking Bad" spin-off series "Better Call Saul." Determined to prove his brother as a liar, Chuck devised a plan that may potentially destroy Jimmy's career.
Fortunately, the creators of the series Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan were able to shed some light on the character of Chuck and what he represents. Though many fans dislike Chuck, Gilligan explained that there is more to him than his manipulative ways.
"He wears a gray hat, not a black hat, not a white hat. Most of the characters in both these shows wear gray hats. They're more like real people. Bad guys, in real life, don't think of themselves as bad guys, they think of themselves as good guys. Everyone has their reasons for what they do," said Gilligan.
He went to explain that Chuck remains true to his passion for justice and the legal system. With that, his intention is to keep the legal system from the wayward ways of his brother.
He elaborated, "Chuck wraps himself in the cloak of correctness and a love for justice, a love for the legal system, humanity's greatest invention, the rule of law. It's a real argument to be made for not respecting anyone who besmirches that, and it's a great source of pain for Chuck that he sees his own brother doing exactly that."
In addition, he explained that the brothers seem to tear each other down in a way, which creates an interesting conflict. With that, it is hard to say whether Chuck is really a bad guy since Jimmy also has his own faults.
"Better Call Saul" season 3 will premiere in 2017 on AMC.
