'Big Little Lies' premiere date, cast & spoilers news 2016: Three big names to star in new HBO series

Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, and Shailene Woodley join forces to play the main characters on the TV adaptation series of the best-selling novel titled "Big Little Lies."

Created by Liane Moriarty, the 2014 novel titled "Big Little Lies" is coming to HBO as a seven-episode TV series, which is to premiere on February 19, according to Deadline. The story revolves around three mothers in a small town who are struggling with their own problems and how these problems lead them to become involved in a murder.

The main characters are Jane, Madeleine, and Celeste, who are going to be played by Woodley, Witherspoon, and Kidman, respectively, according to IMDb.

Jane is a single mother who moves to Monterey where she meets two other mothers — Madeleine and Celeste — whose children go to the same school as her son, Ziggy (Iain Armitage).

In the trailer, Madeleine and Celeste give Jane a warm welcome, and this confuses her. Madeleine tells her, "This is Monterey. We pound people with nice." Celeste adds, "To death."

Based on the novel, Jane is trying to find Ziggy's father, with whom she only had a drunken one-night stand. Madeleine is struggling that her daughter from her previous marriage is becoming closer to her ex-husband's new wife. Meanwhile, Celeste experiences domestic abuse from her rich husband, Perry (Alexander Skarsgård).

Their lives and personal struggles will intertwine and will lead them all to get involved in a murder mystery.

Other names in the "Big Little Lies" cast are Laura Dern, Adam Scott, Zoe Kravitz, James Tupper, and Jeffrey Nordling. The series is directed by Jean-Marc Vallée from "Dallas Buyers Club," and the screenwriter is David E. Kelly. Aside from Kelly and Vallée, "Big Little Lies" is executively produced by Witherspoon, Kidman, Bruna Papandrea, Peri Saari, Gregg Fienberg, and Nathan Ross. Barbara Hall and author Moriarty are also producers of the series.

"Big Little Lies" premiere on Feb. 19 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
