'Black Mirror' season 4 release date, cast news, plot updates: Upcoming season to come with 12 episodes
"Black Mirror" has been confirmed for season 4, and it is said to have 12 new episodes that will premiere in 2017.
Created by Charlie Brooker, episodes of "Black Mirror" have been raved over by fans of the show because of its dark and satirical themes. The episodes have been described to depict end examine modern society, portraying the extreme consequences brought along by the advancement and misuse of technology.
In season 3, the episode titled "San Junipero" made a powerful impact on viewers mainly because it provided a happy ending to the story's characters, Yorkie (Mackenzie Davis) and Kelly (Gugu Mbatha-Raw).
However, according to episode director Owen Harris, "Brooker might not want to do two happy endings!" This means that fans can expect less positive resolutions for the upcoming episodes of "Black Mirror" season 4, even if they decide to make a sequel for "San Junipero."
Meanwhile, "Black Mirror" has been said to accurately predict the future, according to BBC.
The show's previous episode, "The Waldo Moment" is about a sham politician who rises in power. The episode was described to have predicted Donald Trump's climb in the political scene.
Although Brooker explained that "It certainly wasn't based on him, but now a lot of people have come up to me and said, 'that episode predicted Donald Trump.'"
Brooker shared that there were moments when "Black Mirror" just happened to get lucky. He referred to the episode where a woman brought her deceased boyfriend back to life in the form of Artificial Intelligence and another where drone bees have replaced real bees, and he said that both ideas are actually concrete projects as of the moment.
"But I hope I'm not a prophet. Because Black Mirror is really based upon my incessant worrying about everything. The thing that really keeps me awake at night, and has done since I was a child, is the thought of nuclear war. I really don't want to create an episode on that," explained Brooker.
"Black Mirror" is expected to premiere in 2017 on Netflix.
