'Bones' season 12 release date, plot spoilers 2016: 12th and final season almost didn't happen? Hodgins to fix marriage with Angela?

"Bones" season 12 has been confirmed, and it would be the series' swan song, but rumors are circulating that it almost didn't happen because of one cast member.

Eric Millegan, who plays Zack Addy on the series, was apparently the reason why the 12th and final season of "Bones" almost didn't push through. According to reports, there are rumors that the creators weren't happy with their decision of having Millegan on board, which would run contrary to the role the actor played specifically in the season 11 finale.

In the season 11 finale, Millegan's Zack Addy, who was Brennan's (Emily Deschanel) former intern, turned out to be her kidnapper. It's still up for contention whether he is also The Puppeteer, the elusive serial killer that the Jeffersonian team has been after since the start of said season or not.

That aside, it looks like the rumors suggesting Millegan is unwelcomed are unfounded. "Bones" was renewed for its twelfth and final season, and Millegan is set to reprise the role of Zack, which according to co-executive producer Jonathan Collier, would take the series to a new level.

Cinema Blend reported that as per Collier, major changes are expected to happen in the upcoming season, which would change the landscape of the entire show. Apparently, Brennan's kidnapping would present insurmountable problems for Cam (Tamara Taylor) and Arastoo (Pej Vahdat) and could even disrupt their wedding plans. The kidnapping has also supposedly taken its toll on Booth (David Boreanaz).

Meanwhile, T.J. Thyne, who plays Hodgins on the series, said his character would start fixing his relationship with wife Angela (Michaela Conlin) in the upcoming installment. Fans are aware that Hodgins has put his wife through so much after getting paralyzed, so it's high time he makes amends and tries to save their marriage.

Speaking to TV Line, he said he is confident that Hodgins would work things out in order to save his marriage so they could have their happy ending before the curtain falls on the series.
