'Bones' season 12 spoilers: Brennan still protects Zach despite the abduction?

Zach Addy (Eric Millegan) seems to have an evil plan against his former mentor Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) in the 12th and final season of "Bones" on FOX.

The network shared a series of photos to tease fans on what they should look forward to when the crime procedural drama returns for its final season.

Based on the photos, Brennan will discover that her abductor happened to be her former assistant who turned out to be an apprentice of the serial killer named Gorgomon (Laurence Todd Rosenthal). But Brennan's husband Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) seems to be determined to find out where the disturbed former lab assistant took her, and he will be helped by their colleagues at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Jeffersonian Institute to find her.

It also appears like Brennan will still do everything to protect Zack even if he was the reason for her abduction. As seen in one of the newly released photos, Brennan will shield her former protégé when he was about to be arrested by the authorities.

FOX previously revealed in a press release that some of the fan-favorite characters will appear in the final season of Bones. "Throughout the final chapter, fans will see the return of fan-favorite guest stars and interns, as well as an old flame from one of the team's past," the press release stated.

Aside from an explosive serial killer arc, the 12th season of "Bones" will also feature an unexpected plot twist. "Fans also will experience a wedding, follow an epic serial killer storyline, go undercover in a lumberjack competition and see Booth and Brennan's marriage get put to the test. As always, new guest stars will be introduced, as well as a final round of gory murders, from which brand-new investigations will arise," the network statement said.

"Bones" season 12 premieres on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017.
