'Boruto: Naruto Next Generations' chapters 7, 8 spoilers: Naruto, Sasuke team up against Momoshiki; what's next for Boruto?
At its very core, the Japanese manga series "Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" is a story about the bond between father and son. The previously non-existent one between Naruto and his son Boruto has just been given its much needed spark when Sasuke's rescue team finally arrived at Momoshiki's Planet to rescue Konoha's Seventh Hokage.
Chapter 7 may have mostly consisted of fight sequences as Sasuke and the four Kage battle it out with the Otsutsukis. But that brief moment between father and son, wherein Boruto acknowledged his father, and Naruto apologized for his shortcomings in person, may have been the motivation they both needed to harness the power that ultimately defeats Momoshiki.
Following the events in the movie which inspired the manga series, chapter 8 may find Naruto and Sasuke teaming up against Momoshiki using their taijutsu, so as to prevent the enemy from reinforcing himself by absorbing their jutsu. The battle will culminate in the appearance of Naruto's Kurama, that eventually fuses with Sasuke's Susanoo to bring Momoshiki down.
However, one crucial scene in the movie, which reversed Momoshiki's defeat in the hands of Naruto and Sasuke, was left out in the manga adaptation. In the movie, the scientist Katasuke secretly crossed through the portal and tried to use his Kote on Momoshiki, which gave the jutsu-absorbing enemy renewed power that necessitated Boruto's participation in the battle.
It will be interesting to see how the manga will bring Boruto into the fray to show off his Vanishing Rasengan, and eventually have Naruto lend him his chakra so that he can deal the final blow that obliterates Momoshiki.
Another movie-manga difference concerned the appearance of Momoshiki's new form after he absorbed Kinshiki's chakra. Blasting News noted that while the transformed Momoshiki wore a traditional white kariginu hunting suit in "Boruto: Naruto the Movie," he wore a torn tunic in the manga. There are also black marks on his face, chest, arms and the horns on top of his head. He lacked the muscle mass of the movie transformation, and thus looked lithe and less physically imposing. However, he might prove to be a much stronger adversary as the manga series progresses.
There are also speculations about what comes next after the manga finally catches up to where the movie ended. Some fans believe that a grown-up Boruto will be featured in the next arc as the story circles back to the opening scene wherein an older Boruto was caught in a battle against Kawaki on the Hokage Rock.
The movie's post-credit scene also teased the potential involvement of Orochimaru in Boruto's storyline that the manga can pick up. Orochimaru was revealed to be the parent of Boruto's friend and teammate, Mitsuki.
"Boruto: Naruto Next Generations" is drawn and written by Mikio Ikemoto under the supervision of the original manga creator Masashi Kishimoto. A new chapter is published monthly on the "Weekly Shounen Jump" magazine.
