Bow Wow announces retirement from rap; 'NYLTH' to be his last album
Shad Gregory Moss, better known as "Bow Wow," is retiring from rap after 23 years in the industry.
The 29-year-old rapper and actor made the announcement via Twitter on Sunday, Aug. 7, in a series of tweets about how he has made enough money and how he doesn't want to still be rapping at the age of 30.
"'Retirement only means that it is time for a new adventure' over 10 million sold," he wrote. "This the last one. THANK YOU."
In another tweet, he wrote: "I always said years ago i'd retire from music before 30. I just cant see myself at 30 years old rapping."
He later added: "Made over 20 million off rap. Why be greedy? Im good with everything i accomplished. I made it to the white house."
Bow Wow also announced his final album, the upcoming "NYLTH," which was executive produced by Snoop Dogg, his mentor.
Snoop Dogg discovered Bow Wow when he was just six years old. The young rapper then began touring with the older rapper, as well as with Dr. Dre, under the name "Kid Gangsta." He later came to be known as "Lil Bow Wow" before dropping the "Lil" from his name in his teens.
Bow Wow was behind the tracks "Bounce With Me," "Ghetto Girls," and "Puppy Love." The rapper has collaborated with Snoop Dogg, Birdman, JoJo, Amerie, Mario, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, DJ Khaled, and others.
Bow Wow has also dabbled in acting, starring in the films "Like Mike" (2002), "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" (2006), and "Scary Movie 5" (2013). He has also appeared on the TV shows "CSI: Cyber," "Entourage," "Ugly Betty," "Smallville," and "The Secret Life of the American Teenager."
"NYLTH" will be Bow Wow's first studio album since 2009's "New Jack City II."
The official release date for "NYLTH" has not been announced.
