As Disney released its first teaser trailer for "Cars 3" this week, many were surprised that the franchise took an unexpectedly dark and tragic turn — many even complained that it was uncomfortable and traumatizing for most kids to watch.

The new teaser showed Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson), on the race track as always, along with other racing contenders. Without finishing the race, McQueen got himself in an accident which sent him flying into the air.

Apparently, the race car suffered from an internal combustion that is commonly seen among race cars which can't seem to hold up anymore due to age. The teaser clip ended with the phrase, "From this moment, everything will change."

The official synopsis even hints to that end, saying that McQueen is "Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers," and that he is suddenly "pushed out of the sport he loves."

Yet it seems the McQueen still stands a chance with the help of friends, since the synopsis adds that "To get back in the game, he [McQueen] will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn't through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing's biggest stage!"

Disney and Pixar's "Cars" movie first opened in 2006, with Lightning McQueen as a young race car with a huge ego that later learned the value of friendship. "Cars 2" was then released on 2011, while the upcoming "Cars 3" is slated for a June 16, 2017 release date.

Production for "Cars 3" started in the summer of 2014, with voice actor Michael Wallis saying that the new installment will go back to Route 66, and even include a Route 99. It is directed by Brian Fee and produced by Kevin Reher.
